The Madisonville Miners defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 5-3
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers lost their Thursday night home game as the visiting Madisonville Miners came from behind to take the game by a final 5 to 3 score.
The Miners scored first with one run in the top of the 1st inning. With two on and two out -- including a second out recorded at home plate -- Tom Prospero RBI singled to score Nolan Ramsey ahead of him on the third base, but Logan Jarvis became the third out on another play at the plate trying to score from second base.
In the bottom of the 1st inning the Oilers tied the game with a run with two outs when Joe Silva singled and Nick Lugo followed with an RBI double. Owensboro added a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Sam Medina reached on a drag bunt to lead off then moved to second base on a passed ball. One out later Lugo delivered again with an RBI single. The Oilers made it 3 to 1 with a run in the bottom of the 5th inning. With two away, Hector Marmal singled, scoring as Seth Woodard followed with an RBI triple.
Those three runs proved to be all from the Oilers offense for the night, and Madisonville took advantage of the opening. The Miners closed to 3-2 with a run in the top of the 6th inning. With one out, Collin Dupree was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and moved to third base on a single by Ramsey. Dupree scored on a wild pitch. Madisonville scored a tying run in the top of the 8th inning. Wesley Birchmeier drew a one-out walk, took second a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out pinch-hit single by Chase Hensley. The Miners took the lead with two runs in the top of the 9th inning. Austin Sistrunk singled with one out. With two out, pinch-hitter EJ Watson RBI doubled Sistrunk in. Genesis Hillard batted next and RBI singled Watson around as well.
Suddenly faced with the bottom of the 9th, and needing two runs, the Oilers went down in order to end the ballgame.
The winning pitcher was Madisonville reliever Casey Elbin who came on in the 6th inning and stymied Owensboro as his team rallied.
Conversely the losing pitcher was Owensboro reliever Matt Walczak in spite of seven strong innings from starter Ryan Hundley.
