Owensboro RiverDawgs Claws Back, But Falls Just Short Against Hoptown Hoppers

Owensboro RiverDawgs fought back after falling down by eight runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 10-8 defeat to Hoptown Hoppers on Monday. Owensboro RiverDawgs scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Spencer Deom in the second, a fielder's choice by Wyatt Daly in the second, a single by Bryce Walker in the third, a double by Deom in the third, and a walk by Daly in the seventh.

Owensboro RiverDawgs fell behind early in the loss. Hoptown Hoppers scored on a grand slam by Nick Proto in the first inning, a home run by Cord Johnson in the first inning, a home run by Cody Hartness in the first inning, a single by MJ Rookard in the first inning, a walk by John Reed in the second inning, and a wild pitch during Cole Cummings's at bat in the second inning.

Hoptown Hoppers opened up scoring in the first inning. Hoptown Hoppers scored four runs when Proto homered.

Owensboro RiverDawgs put up three runs in the third inning. Owensboro RiverDawgs big bats were led by Walker and Deom, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Trey Fields earned the win for the Hoptown Hoppers. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking zero. Joe DeFina, Hassan Westbrook, and Ethan Clark all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team toward victory. Clark recorded the last out to earn the save for Hoptown Hoppers.

Hayden Wynja took the loss for Owensboro RiverDawgs. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on six hits and striking out three.

Jaxon Herchenbach started the game for the Hoptown Hoppers. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out one
