Early Lead For Hoptown Hoppers Seals Fate For Paducah Chiefs
Paducah Chiefs fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 11-7 loss to Hoptown Hoppers on Tuesday. Hoptown Hoppers scored on a single by John Reed in the second inning, an error in the second inning, a single by MJ Rookard in the second inning, a fielder's choice by Nick Proto in the second inning, and a double by Cole Cummings in the third inning.
Despite the loss, Paducah Chiefs did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hoptown Hoppers had 13 hits on the way to victory.
Hoptown Hoppers pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Reed singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for Hoptown Hoppers, Rookard singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Henry Boechmann induced Proto to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Paducah Chiefs notched three runs in the fourth inning. Paducah Chiefs batters contributing to the big inning included Kyle Antos and Kevin Brenning, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Ryan Traylor earned the victory on the mound for Hoptown Hoppers. He allowed eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out two. Sam Traver, Kendall Marshall, and Ethan Clark all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team toward victory.
Stone Selby took the loss for Paducah Chiefs. He allowed two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one.
Paducah Chiefs totaled 12 hits. Brenning, Clayton Stephens, and Antos all managed multiple hits for Paducah Chiefs. Brenning went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Paducah Chiefs in hits.
Hoptown Hoppers had 13 hits in the game. Cummings, Max Remy, Reed, Rookard, and Proto each managed multiple hits for Hoptown Hoppers. Cummings led Hoptown Hoppers with three hits in six at-bats.
