Hoptown Hoppers Holds Onto Victory As Madisonville Miners Almost Erases 4-Run Deficit
Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, Hoptown Hoppers still held off Madisonville Miners for a 6-5 victory on Thursday. Madisonville Miners scored three runs in the failed comeback on a error in the eighth, a walk by Alex DiVito in the eighth, and a sacrifice fly by Connor O'Connell in the ninth.
Hoptown Hoppers tallied three runs in the sixth inning. The rally was led by a walk by Reid Douglas, a single by Carter Hood, and an error on a ball put in play by Dom Oliverio.
Caden Wilburn led the Hoptown Hoppers to victory on the mound. The lefty went five innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out five. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Jaxon McTyre, Dylan Eaton, Cannon Anthony, and Chase Gruno all securing outs and ultimately the victory. McTyre recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Hoptown Hoppers.
Schon Pespisa took the loss for Madisonville Miners. The righthander went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out four.
Hoptown Hoppers tallied eight hits in the game. Hood, Stephen Bell, and Luis Vergara each racked up multiple hits for Hoptown Hoppers. Vergara, Bell, and Hood each collected two hits to lead Hoptown Hoppers.
Will Vance led Madisonville Miners with two hits in five at bats.
