Miners Top Railroaders 9-1 at Elmer Kelley Friday Night

Payton Stephenson collected three hits in five at bats, as Madisonville Miners defeated Fulton Railroaders 9-1 on Friday. Stephenson hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.

Madisonville Miners got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Nazhir Bergen doubled, and Fred Fernandez singled, each scoring one run.

Madisonville Miners added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Fernandez singled, scoring two runs, and Pete Britton hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Three more Madisonville Miners runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Stephenson hit a solo home run to left field, Brayden Taylor drew a walk, scoring one run, and Bergen drew a walk, scoring one run.

Taylor opened the game for Madisonville Miners. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Emillo Duque started on the hill for Fulton Railroaders. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and five runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Jacob Claiborne, Ethan Barrett, Zakary Rasener, and Luke Connors each came on in relief for Madisonville Miners and shutdown Fulton Railroaders.

Madisonville Miners amassed 10 hits in the game. Fernandez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Madisonville Miners with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-4 on the day. Bergen collected two hits for Madisonville Miners in four at bats. Madisonville Miners had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Mason Pangborn, Taylor, and Jace Parnin led the team with two free passes each. Madisonville Miners turned two double plays in the game. Madisonville Miners didn't commit a single error in the field. Stephenson had the most chances in the field with eight.

Mason Cook went 1-for-4 at the plate as they led the team with one run batted in. Charlie Ferbet, Cook, Daniel Irizarry, and Jake Vitale each collected one hit for Fulton Railroaders. Drake DeFreitas paced Fulton Railroaders with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Fulton Railroaders turned one double play in the game.
